Double the size - double the fun!
Movie Park Germany has opened its 30,000 m² NICKLAND theme area
(Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany, 20 June 2008) The Nickland theme area, a joint venture with the Nick children's TV channel, at the film and entertainment park in Bottrop-Kirchhellen, is now finished. This Friday is the official grand opening of the 30,000 m² theme area and its 16 attractions. It has been one of Movie Park Germany's biggest ever investments and is one of the biggest Nick theme areas in the world. The new attractions include the 30 meters-high Splat-O-Sphere - a carousel ride where guests can use a joystick to control the flight path - the lavishly-designed Dora’s Big River Adventure and the only Avatar Air Glider in the world, a ride that lets guests float through the air. The new theme area also has five carousels for small children on Nick cartoon hero themes and two completely remodelled roller coasters.
Nick presenters, Lars Dietrich and Nela, plus the popular figures of SpongeBob Square Pants, Patrick, Dora and the Backyardigans, will be hosting the grand opening ceremony.
160 tons of steel, 375,000 paving stones, 10,000 metres of electric cable and 8,000 plants were used to create Nickland, and 4,000 square metres of wall had to be painted. Over 150 people worked over a several month period to create the theme area. "The new Nickland is a milestone for Movie Park Germany. It cost EUR XY million to build, which is the biggest investment that the park has ever made. We've hit bull's eye with our Nick joint venture and the presence of popular cartoon characters like SpongeBob and Dora," said a happy Movie Park's General Manager, Wouter Dekkers. Now that Nickland has been completed, the theme park can push ahead with its new family-oriented strategy and offer a wider range of interesting attractions for both small children and adults.
A special bonus for little kids is the Nick passport that they are each presented with. Every time they complete an adventure (go on a ride) they get a stamp in their passport.
